ZETDC Prepaid Metering Project

Energy & Power Supply

In a bid to enhance revenue collection from electricity sales, ZETDC resolved to migrate from the post-paid system to prepaid and smart metering systems. The project entailed installing 800 000 prepaid metres throughout the country. ZETDC has currently installed close to 600 000 prepaid meters throughout the country. It is also important to mention that following the successful issuance in 2012 of a US$30 million bond that was needed to kick start the prepaid metering project, the company mandated the IDBZ, once again, to raise an additional facility of US$15 million in November 2014.  The Bank approached the market at the end of the year to raise the required amount. The Bank successfully raised the US$15 million required by ZETDC in 2015.
