Rapid growth in enrolment by universities has resulted in services and accommodation demands that outstrip infrastructure and service capacity. There are 69,973 students enrolled by state universities across the country of which 75% have no access to on-campus accommodation facilities. The first phase of the Bank’s university accommodation project seeks will involve the construction of Students Halls of Residence at Lupane State University, National University of Science & Technology and University of Zimbabwe. The main objective of the project is to provide student accommodation at four of Zimbabwe’s eleven (11) state universities contributing to the social well-being of staff and students. When completed the project will directly benefit at least 3,990 students. The project’s projected total cost is US$18 million and will be executed in 12 months.
