Kariba South Expansion Project

This is an expansion to the existing Hydro-Electric energy plant by Zimbabwe Power Company and is expected to cost US508 million. The EPC contractor is Sino Hydro and the expansion exercise will see two generating units being constructed with the capacity to generate 300 MW of power. The project is currently 60% complete and the first unit is expected to release power into the national grid by 2017. The Bank has raised of US$38.8 million which was one of the conditions precedent that had to be met by the Zimbabwe Power Company to unlock the US$320 million China Exim Bank Facility to fund the project
