Hwange town currently has a housing backlog of 9,000 units and the town’s sewer capacity is in urgent need of rehabilitation. The Hwange Local Board has expressed interest in establishing a partnership with the IDBZ in the servicing of 2,000 high density housing stands that would ease the current housing backlog and a facility to upgrade the town’s sewer system capacity through the rehabilitation of a 1.08ML/day waste water treatment plant. The objective of project is to provide housing and improve municipal sanitation services thereby contributing to the development of the health and social wellbeing of the population. When completed the project will directly benefit 2,000 home seekers and 5,000 households in terms of improved sanitation. The project’s total estimated cost is US$3.7 million and will be executed over a period of 12 months.
